Why You May Need Sheet Metal Fabrication for Your HVAC Unit

by Benjamin Rice

As a property owner, you probably think an HVAC upgrade would be fairly easy. The truth is there are several reasons a traditional HVAC unit would need to be fabricated to fit your particular home. When this occurs, your HVAC contractor may turn to sheet metal fabrication. This fabrication process creates special options for your system in order for it to fit or function properly in your home. Here are some of the reasons you may need to have this fabrication done and why.

Small Spaces

Depending on how your home is designed and how old it is, you may find you have small spaces that are suitable for the ductwork of your HVAC unit. If this is the case, your contractor may need to resort to sheet metal fabrication. This is because some smaller spaces may be smaller than the ductwork available to the contractors. This leads to fabrication and creation of ductwork that will fit your home with the least amount of damage or renovation to the home possible.

HVAC Remodeling

There are times when your HVAC system needs an upgrade. This could be due to rusting parts in the ductwork or damage to the HVAC unit itself. If you have an older model or one that has been modified several times over the years, your contractor will likely have to use sheet metal fabrication to create the pieces you need. If you only need one piece of the system fabricated and installed this may be the ideal alternative to a fully new HVAC installation.

Water Damage

Water damage can happen anytime in the home. It can affect various parts of the home including your HVAC system. This is often the first area that may be affected, especially if the water damage is coming from the roof. When this happens, you may need to have your contractor use fabrication techniques to replace parts of the ductwork or the entire length of ductwork. This will require an assessment of the ductwork to determine how much damage there is and what will need to be replaced.

If you are ready to upgrade your HVAC system or have one completely installed for the first time, contact your HVAC contractor. They will need to assess the area and determine what will need to happen in order to fit the HVAC in your home. This includes the ductwork and other aspects of the unit. Your contractor will discuss your options and move forward on sheet metal fabrication if necessary.
